With the conversion of the school from a traditional grade 6-8 school, the administration and library needed to be more central to the overall campus. The design team converted an existing 5 classroom building to a new elementary and middle school administration on the public side of the building with a library program on the school courtyard side. Due to new 2013 codes and relocation of structural shear walls, the entire building structure and systems was upgraded except for the mechanical units, which are only about 8 years old. The only site work is the adjacent sidewalk that needed to be raised for ADA compliance and connections of all utilities and data. In order to meet the 4 month construction time, the design team agreed to eliminate submittal review and included all colors in the bid documents so that contractors could order everything as early as possible and begin the construction and layout immediately after the notice to proceed was issued.
