The Rivera Middle School master plan is to become a 1,500 student K-8 school to meet the changing needs of the local community. The joint-use gymnasium is the first of three phases of the expansion and was partially funded with the District’s local Measure S Bond and City and State funds. The remaining phases to be completed are modernization work and additional classrooms which will be designed in 2012. This phase has an unusually large portion of site related work, ensuring efficiency of District funds by installing future site work for the master plan. The District evaluated the LLB and low bid, and by maximizing the remainder of the Measure S Bond funds with a low bid (multiple-prime delivery) approach, the District achieved the goal of attaining more scope at a reduced cost.
